JOIHF Heads To Halifax, Nova Scotia For Africville Conference

Jamaican Olympic Ice Hockey Federation, also known as Jamaica Olympic Ice Hockey Team, is pleased to announce its team member attendance at the Africville Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia. They will experience JOIHF’s first introduction to the descendants of creators of the sport of ice hockey – the slaves of Jamaica who navigated their way to Nova Scotia for freedom.

Attending will be Lester Griffin, JOIHF’s assistant manager for its hockey team and related grass roots program; Judith Smith, key strategist and co-project director; and Don Anderson, author, community and sports leader, diplomat, and former lst Vice President of the Jamaican Olympic Association.

Anderson was the catalyst of JOIHF’s successful Jamaican business relationship at the urgings of former Minister of Sports, Olivia Grange, and since leaving the JOA has become a recent consultant to JOIHF regarding Olympic advancement as well as grass roots program establishment in Jamaica.

Don Anderson will also be the highlight of the Halifax sports interest by his book signing for his Olympic masterpiece Seoul To Beijing, which happens to be the textbook of the JOIHF organization.

Arif Khatib, responsible for the Multi-Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame – which is hosting the conference – serves as an advisor to the JOIHF organization along with his colleague, Bill McCrary. McCrary is a prosultant, as well as an entertainment and sports promoter. Khatib has worked to establish many other entities that champion equality and freedom and recognition of men of color in the sports world.
