Jeff Brubaker

General Manager

Jeff Brubaker brings to JOIHF experience as a player, coach, recruiter, general manager, and sports business manager. Jeff played in the National Hockey League for seven teams, played in Canadian Major Junior hockey and the NCAA division one. He is intimately familiar with every level of play that would be a player recruiting source.

 

After Jeff playing career ended, he spent over a decade as a general manager and head coach in the ECHL and head coach at the AAA and AA levels. Mr. Brubaker experience brings knowledge of the business side of the sport. Currently he is the Managing Partner of a Mergers and Acquisitions firm that employs many former professional athletes.

 

Mr. Brubaker’s career includes these accomplishments:

 

  • Coached 14 years in ECHL, AHL, and IHL including championship for Greenboro Monarch in 1990 and Orlando Jackals in 1996

  • Head Coach and General Manager for ECHL in Greensboro.

  • Played 10 professional seasons combining NHL, IHL, WHL, and AHL

  • Played  for 7 NHL teams including Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, and Edmonton Oilers

  • Co-founder of the Southern Professional Hockey League

Lester Griffin

Assistant General Manager

Lester Griffin entered the ice hockey world in 1993 in Charleston, South Carolina by helping to organize and establish the very first recreational youth ice hockey organization. His love for the sport has at times taken him to Canada and Europe, but most of all led to his split purchase of a North American Hockey League (NAHL) Junior Hockey Tier II franchise from Compuware, which was taken to Traverse City Michigan. During his first 2 years managing the Traverse City North Stars, Lester sat on the NAHL Board of Directors and also took a hands-on approach as the Team Director of Hockey Operations.

Through the years he has continued working with travel ice hockey programs in Charleston and also served as Assistant Manager of the Carolina Ice Palace, working closely with ice hockey and figure skating organizations. In 2007 he was asked to assist in developing the first Junior Ice Hockey Team in Charleston, thus the Charleston Wolverines Junior C Hockey Club was born. Lester worked with the team members and helped recruit local players and players from Europe. In the first season (07/08) the Charleston Wolverines did not only qualify for the USA Hockey National Championship tournament, they went all the way to the Championship Final Game.



Mr. Griffin is a retired police detective and successful business entrepreneur. His excellent fundraising, team-building and leadership skills, combined with his business and hockey management experience make him a valuable asset to JOIHF.

Graeme Townshend
Coach

A personal story of “beating the odds,” Mr. Graeme Townshend brings a rich hockey history to JOIHF as a player and evolvement into an outstanding Skating Coach. His Clinics & Boarding Camps excel in development of player speed, quickness & power. Mr. Townshend was the first NHL player who was born in Jamaica.

 

Graeme’s expansive career includes: skating coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs; four years as the Player Development Coordinator for the San Jose Sharks; coached for the CHL in Macoon, and then the ECHL in Greensboro; played ten professional seasons combining NHL, IHL, and WHL; played right wing for the Boston Bruins, the New York Islanders, and the Ottawa Senators.

 

Mr. Townshend's achievements include induction into the Canadian Black Hockey Hall of Fame and named Man of the Year in IHL and WHL for his leadership off the ice and in the community.

Tony Martino
Coach

Tony Martino has expertise as an ice hockey goalie and coach. He holds an Olympic qualification and was CHL Goaltender of the Year (1992-1993).

 

He spent 14 years as a Goalie for such teams as the Tulsa Oilers (CHL), Detroit Vipers (IHL), Heilbronn EC (Germany), New Mexico Scorpions (WPHL) Abilene Aviators (WPHL) and R.P.I. (ECAC)

 

Mr. Martino has 10 years of coaching at the Tulsa Oilers (CHL), New Mexico Scorpions (WPHL, CHL), Varese HC (Italy), Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL).

Paul Jerrard
Coach

A coach and a professional ice hockey player, Paul Jerrard brings a special flavor of talent and seasoned experience to JOIHF’s coaching environment.  Paul is an Assistant Coach to the NHL Dallas Stars and founded Jerrard Sports Hockey in 2013.

 

Mr. Jerrard's career includes coaching experience with the Colorado Avalanche, the Lake Superior State, the Hershey Bears, and the Iowa Stars. Currently he is an assistant coach in the AHL for the Vancouver Canucks organization, their affiliate the Utica Comets.

 

His playing career included playing Defenseman for the Minnesota North Stars (NHL), several teams in the IHL including the AHL for the Hershey Bears and four years of collegiate hockey at Lake Superior State. His career highlights feature: playing collegiate hockey for four years at Lake Superior State; playing Defense for the NHL Minnesota North Stars; coaching experience with Colorado Avalanche, Lake Superior State, Hershey Bears, Iowa Stars.

Cosmo Clarke Jr.
Coach

Cosmo Clarke Jr. roles as Player, Coach and Trainer add to the wide array of sports hockey experience which definitely enhances the certified coaching table of JOIHF.

 

Currently Mr. Clarke is Director of Athletic Development at the Sportsplex at Valley View; Strength and Conditioning Coach/Hockey Skills Coach for the Dallas Oilers Youth Hockey Program; Assistant Hockey/Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Jesuit Preparatory Varsity Hockey Program.

 

His N. America/Europe school development/playing/coaching career includes but not limited to: five years playing professional hockey; four years playing collegiate hockey at Brock University; USA Hockey Master Coaching Certification Level 5; and NASM Certified Personal Trainer.

 

Mr. Clarke has 20 years developing, instructing and directing hockey schools across North America and Europe.

Cyril "CJ" Bollers
Coach

 

Cyril “CJ” Bollers is president and head coach of Skillz Hockey and associate coach of the Markham Majors Minor Midget AAA team in the Toronto area. He has coached a stable of players who’ve gone on to successful major junior hockey careers and positioned themselves to become NHL players. Mr. Bollers signed on as an assistant coach in November 2014 of the Pickering Panthers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, working under Paul Coffey.

 

CJ's coaching credentials include but not limited to: coach U16 Canada Winter Games - Team Ontario; Coach and Player Development Instructor, Advisor and Mentor for Various Minor Hockey Associations 

 

Some of the players who were coached by Mr. Bollers: Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds defenseman Darnell Nurse, Edmonton Oilers first-round draft pick summer 2013; Kitchener Rangers forward Justin Bailey, Buffalo Sabres 2013 second-round pick; Bellville Bulls defenseman Jordan Subban, the Vancouver Canucks’ 2013 fourth-round pick.

Edmond R. Phillipps

CEO and Founder

 

Edmond R. Phillipps – affectionately known as “EJ" – is an amazing young hockey player/coach of Jamaican descent who has been playing ice hockey for 19 years and coaching for seven of those years.

EJ's talents includes: Master Coach, with USA Hockey Level 5 Certification; Douglas County Varsity Assistant Coach; Douglas County Castle View (DCCV) Junior Varsity Head Coach, obtain 1st State Championship in 2014; Arapahoe Peewee travel B Head Coach; Acting Director/ Assistant Varsity Coach for DCCV high school hockey program in 2015. He is currently a Level 4 coach, working on his Level 5 certification.

Dr. Joel Boyd
Head of Medical

Tapping the major leagues of ice hockey, football, and basketball, as well as tours at the Olympics and World Championships as medical staff, Dr. Joel Boyd brings an eclectic extensive background as JOIHF’s Head of Medical.

 

Dr. Boyd's team physician career includes: head team physician (NHL Minnesota Wild, NFL Minnesota Vikings, WNBA Minnesota Lynx); team physician (USA Hockey Men's World Championship - Koln, Germany, USA Hockey World Championships - Zurich, Switzerland,  1998 Olympic USA Men's Hockey Team and 1998 Olympic USA Hockey Women's Team  - Nagano, Japan); and assistant team physician (NBA Minnesota Timberwolves).

 

He has countless published medical papers, theses and orthopedic research findings. He received his doctorate from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Penn. His conducted an Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. His internship/residency was in orthopedic surgery at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.
